Early Life
Sananta Tanti was born on 4 November 1952 in Kalinagar Tea Estate in present-day Karimganj district, Assam. His father was Loknath Tanti and his mother was Baitarani Tanti. Growing up in a tea garden worker family, he witnessed economic hardship and social inequality from an early age. These real-life experiences later became the foundation of his poetry, which reflected the lives of marginalized communities with honesty and emotional depth.
Education
Tanti began his education at Kalinagar Tea Estate Primary School before studying at Ramkrishna Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, where he completed his Higher Secondary education in 1969. Financial constraints prevented him from continuing his studies at St. Anthony's College, Shillong. However, his determination never faded. While working in Jorhat, he attended evening classes and later completed his Bachelor's degree privately from Dibru College under Dibrugarh University in 1975.
Career
Sananta Tanti started his professional career in 1971 at the Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organisation in Jorhat. Later, he served as a Sub-Divisional Information and Public Relations Officer in the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Assam. He subsequently returned to the Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organisation, where he held several senior positions, eventually retiring as Deputy Provident Fund Commissioner in 2012. Even after retirement, he continued serving as a Special Duty Officer for a brief period while remaining active in literary and cultural activities.
