Discover Assam: Land of the Brahmaputra and Diverse Districts
Nestled between the majestic Himalayan foothills to the north and the rolling plateau of Meghalaya to the south lies the breathtaking valley of Assam. This verdant land, the heart of which pulses with the lifeblood of the mighty Brahmaputra River, is a tapestry woven with rich culture and natural beauty. Assam is administratively divided into 35 distinct districts, each contributing to the state's unique character.
Among these, Karbi-Anglong stands as the sprawling giant, encompassing a remarkable 10,434 square kilometers, making it the largest district in Assam. Following in size is the Sonitpur district, which, while significant, covers approximately half the area of its larger counterpart.
The administrative helm of each of Assam's districts rests with the esteemed Deputy Commissioner. This pivotal figure serves as the linchpin of governance, holding multifaceted responsibilities as the district's executive head. In their role as the District Magistrate, they are entrusted with the crucial task of maintaining law and order. As the Collector, they oversee revenue collection and fiscal health. Supporting them, the Superintendent of Police ensures law enforcement and public safety.
