Nakul Chandra Bhuyan was born in May 1895 at Charing in present-day Sivasagar district of Assam. He was the only son of Gopal Chandra Bhuyan and Dalimi Bhuyan. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he developed a deep interest in Assamese history, folklore and literature from an early age. His fascination with the glorious past of Assam later became the foundation of his literary career.

Education

Bhuyan received his early education at Jorhat Government Boys' School and passed the Entrance Examination in 1916. He later travelled to Calcutta, where he studied typewriting and shorthand. During his stay there, he expanded his knowledge through extensive reading and developed a greater appreciation for literature, history and drama.

Career

After returning to Assam in 1921, Nakul Chandra Bhuyan worked as the librarian of the Dibrugarh District Club Library. He later served in the Dibru-Sadiya Railway's Chief Engineering Department and subsequently in the Deputy Commissioner's office.

In 1924, he left government service and joined Cinamara Tea Estate as an Assistant Manager. Through dedication and efficient management, he rose to become a Senior Manager under the Jorehaut Tea Company. He eventually retired in 1954 from Borsapori Tea Estate after a successful professional career.

Although he worked in different administrative and managerial positions, literature remained his lifelong passion. Throughout his career, he continued writing plays, historical essays, biographies and collections of stories that enriched Assamese literature.
