Early Life
Pushpa Bhuyan was born in Jorhat, Assam, around 1946. From a young age she displayed exceptional interest in music, dance, and performing arts. At a time when very few people from Assam pursued classical dance professionally, she chose to dedicate herself to this demanding field. Education and Classical Dance Training
Pushpa Bhuyan became the first Assamese student to study Bharatanatyam at Kalakshetra, Chennai, one of India's most respected institutions for classical arts. She later received advanced training under renowned gurus including Guru Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer, Guru Kubernath Tanjorkar, Guru Muthaiah Pillai, and Guru Vishnu Vaishalkar for Kathak.
Along with Bharatanatyam, she mastered several other Indian classical dance traditions including Sattriya, Kathak, Kuchipudi, and Manipuri.
