Route and Major Attractions
The southern terminal is located at Panbazar, near Nehru Park, while the northern terminal is situated near Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati. During the ride, passengers can look down over the broad Brahmaputra, observe the changing river scenery and enjoy an aerial view of Umananda Island, home to the historic Umananda Temple. The surrounding hills, riverbanks and urban landscape add to the experience.
The journey generally takes around seven minutes one way, although actual travel time may vary with operating conditions. Rather than simply being a transport connection, the ropeway offers a memorable sightseeing experience for families, couples, photographers and visitors discovering Guwahati for the first time.
Ropeway Facilities and Experience
The ropeway uses a bi-cable jig-back system designed for passenger transport across the river. Its cabins can accommodate up to 30 passengers along with an operator, subject to operational arrangements. Both terminals provide visitor facilities, including waiting areas and public conveniences. Parking is available near the stations, but visitors should confirm current availability before travelling, especially during weekends and holidays.
After reaching North Guwahati, visitors can consider exploring Dol Govinda Temple and other nearby cultural attractions. Those starting from Panbazar can combine their ropeway visit with a walk around Nehru Park or other central Guwahati landmarks.
