Early Life
Himanta Biswa Sarma was born on 1 February 1969 in Jorhat, Assam, to Kailash Nath Sarma and Mrinalini Devi. Although born in Jorhat, he spent most of his childhood in Guwahati after his family relocated there. Raised in an academically inclined family, he developed an early interest in public affairs, social issues, and leadership. His disciplined upbringing and active participation in educational activities helped shape his future career in public service and politics.
Education
Himanta Biswa Sarma completed his schooling at Kamrup Academy, Guwahati, passing the Higher Secondary examination in 1985. He pursued higher studies in Political Science, earning his Bachelor's degree from Cotton College and subsequently obtaining a Master's degree in Political Science from Gauhati University. He later completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Government Law College, Guwahati. Continuing his academic journey, he earned a PhD in Political Science from Gauhati University with research focusing on the North Eastern Council and regional development. Before entering full-time politics, he also practiced law at the Gauhati High Court.

Himanta Biswa Sarma's political journey began during his student years. While studying at Cotton College, he actively participated in student politics and served as the General Secretary of the Cotton College Students' Union.
