Originally established in 1906 by a British administrator, Mr. Cole, the park was later renovated and developed into a modern recreational space while preserving its historical significance. Surrounded by lush greenery, landscaped gardens, small hillocks, and a scenic lake, Chitralekha Udyan offers a peaceful environment for relaxation and sightseeing. The park is named after Chitralekha, a celebrated character from the legendary love story of Usha and Aniruddha, which is closely associated with the cultural heritage of Tezpur.
One of the major attractions of the park is its boating facility on the lake, where visitors can enjoy paddle boating while admiring the tranquil surroundings. The park also features historical stone sculptures, decorative pillars, a replica of the famous Bhomoraguri inscription, an open-air stage, children's amusement facilities, and a preserved MIG-21 aircraft display. These unique attractions make it one of the most interesting places to visit in Tezpur.
