Detailed Notes
The second-longest boundary of Assam is with Arunachal Pradesh, which stretches for about 804.1 km along Assam's northern frontier. Assam also shares long borders with Nagaland (512.1 km) and Manipur (204.1 km), strengthening its central position within Northeast India.
In addition, Assam shares boundaries with Mizoram (164.6 km), West Bengal (127 km), and Tripura (46.3 km). These borders collectively make Assam the only Indian state that shares boundaries with seven northeastern states, along with two countries, Bhutan and Bangladesh, earning it the title of the gateway to Northeast India.
Because of its extensive inter-state connectivity, Assam plays a major role in economic integration, transportation networks, and cultural interaction across the entire northeastern region.
