Assam, known for its rich cultural legacy, intellectual heritage, and vibrant socio-political history, has produced many icons whose work has reached national and global platforms. From literature and education to political leadership and classical dance, recipients from Assam represent excellence in diverse fields. As of today, a total of 11 distinguished personalities from the state have been honored with the Padma Bhushan.
One of the most recent awardees is Shri Jatin Goswami, a celebrated figure in Assam's classical dance tradition. Honored in 2025 for his contribution to Art, he is widely respected for his tireless efforts in promoting and preserving Sattriya, a classical dance form of Assam. Another notable name is Shri Tarun Gogoi, the longest-serving Chief Minister of Assam, who was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2021 in the field of Public Affairs. His role in transforming the socio-economic landscape of Assam is regarded as one of the most significant contributions in modern Assamese political history.
