Why Has A Special Investigation Team (sit) Been Formed To Probe Into Zubeen Garg's Death?

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police had already begun investigating the case after over 60 FIRs were filed across the state against the organisers of the Northeast India Festival, where Zubeen had gone to perform.
On September 24, 2025, the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, officially constituted the SIT with senior officers, giving them full authority and independence to investigate. The team will work in a time-bound and transparent manner to uncover the truth.

The viscera samples of Zubeen Garg will also be sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL), Delhi, for advanced medical examination.
A second post-mortem was conducted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after strong public demand for further investigation. Zubeen was later cremated with full state honours on September 23, 2025, in Guwahati.
With the SIT taking charge, the people of Assam and Zubeen’s fans worldwide are awaiting a clear, transparent, and just conclusion to this tragic case.
