Who Is Rahul Gautam Sharma, Who Performed The Funeral Rites For Zubeen Garg? - General Knowledge of Assam
After the cremation of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, one of the most asked questions has been: Who is Rahul Gautam Sharma, the young man who performed the funeral rites alongside others?

Rahul Gautam Sharma is a talented poet, lyricist, orator, and actor from Assam. He was not only known in the literary and cultural circle of Assam but also held a very special place in Zubeen Garg’s life. Zubeen introduced Rahul at several events and often referred to him as his own son.

Some of Rahul’s most loved songs include “Tumi Jen Popiya Tara…”, “Monore Koina…”, and “Ubhooti Sowa Dhuliyari Bate…”. His writings and poems, including his first poetry collection “Etiyoloi Imaney”, have been appreciated by the Assamese audience.

Academically, Rahul studied at Assam Jatiya Vidyalay and Cotton College, and he is currently pursuing History at Ambedkar University, Delhi. He is the son of senior journalist Gautam Sharma and teacher Chinmoyee Goswami. Despite his family background, Rahul carved out his own identity and remained extremely close to Zubeen and his wife Garima.

“You wanted our son; we said, ‘Let it be.’ We kept our word, friend.”

Rahul Gautam Sharma today stands as a rising literary and cultural figure in Assam, remembered not only for his creative works but also for his deep bond with Zubeen Garg.
