What Is Bogi Jamuk In Assam?

Bogi Jamuk, known in English as the Jamun or Indian blackberry (Syzygium cumini), is a seasonal fruit cherished in Assam, especially around the Magh Bihu festival. It's a tropical fruit with a mild, rose-scented flavor and a slightly bitter aftertaste, often described as a cross between an apple and a watermelon. The fruit is typically whitish-green, pear-shaped, and about 5 cm long.

Rich in vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants, it is believed to aid digestion, improve immunity, and help regulate blood sugar levels. The arrival of Bogi Jamuk in local markets signals a festive and nostalgic moment for many Assamese households.
