How Many Capitals Are In The Ahom Kingdom?

During its nearly 600-year reign (1228–1826 CE), the Ahom Kingdom had several capitals at different times. The Ahom rulers shifted their capital multiple times due to political, military, strategic, and environmental reasons, such as floods, invasions, and administrative convenience.

The Ahom kingdom had five capital cities during its reign: Charaideo, Charagua, Garhgaon, Rangpur, and Jorhat.

Here's a little more detail:

Charaideo: Founded by the first Ahom king, Sukaphaa, it served as the kingdom's initial capital.

Charagua: The exact period when Charagua served as capital is less clear, but it is mentioned as a capital after Charaideo.

Gargaon: Became the capital in the 16th century.

Rangpur: Rudra Singha shifted the capital here in the early 18th century.

Jorhat: The last capital of the Ahom kingdom, established in the late 18th century.
