Who Was The Longest Ruling Ahom King?

The longest-reigning king of the Ahom dynasty was Sukhaamphaa, popularly known as Khora Roja. He ascended the throne in 1552 and ruled until 1603, completing an extraordinary 51-year reign — the longest in Assam’s recorded history.

Sukhaamphaa earned the title Khora Roja (meaning “Lame King”) after suffering a leg injury during a hunting expedition. Despite his disability, he maintained strong control over the kingdom, ensuring political stability and defending Ahom territories from external threats.

His reign was marked by administrative consolidation, cultural development, and expansion of the kingdom’s influence in Northeast India. The stability provided during his half-century rule laid the foundation for the later golden period of the Ahoms.
