The only Ramsar site in Assam is Deepor Beel, a freshwater lake located on the outskirts of Guwahati city. It was designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance on November 19, 2002, under the Ramsar Convention — a global treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.
