The All Assam Students Union (AASU) was officially formed on 8 August 1967. It emerged as a strong and independent student organization representing the interests of students across Assam and played a crucial role in various socio-political movements in the state.
AASU gained significant momentum during the Assam Movement (1979–1985), where it led widespread protests against illegal immigration and demanded the protection of Assamese identity and culture. The movement, driven by peaceful democratic means, eventually led to the signing of the historic Assam Accord in 1985.
Since its formation, AASU has been deeply involved in educational, cultural, and political issues in Assam and continues to be an influential voice in the state's youth and policy affairs.
