The historic Battle of Saraighat was fought in the year 1671 between the Ahom Kingdom and the Mughal Empire. Led by the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, the Ahoms bravely defended their territory against the mighty Mughal forces on the Brahmaputra River near Guwahati.
This naval battle is celebrated as a symbol of Assamese courage, patriotism, and military strategy, and it marked a major defeat for the expanding Mughal Empire in the Northeast.
