What Is Siral Fruit In Assam And How To Eat It?

Siral fruit is a lesser-known seasonal wild fruit found in Assam, cherished for its distinctive sweet-and-tangy flavor. In Assam, Siral, also known as Bangi or musk melon, is a popular summer fruit. It's known for its sweet aroma when ripe, and it's often enjoyed with warm milk and sugar. When ripe, the fruit may naturally crack, leading to an Assamese saying "Siral fota di fatile," meaning "cracked like a ripe Siral". Siral is considered nutritious, with high water content and potassium. It's also known for its cooling effect in the summer.

Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and natural minerals, it is believed to boost immunity, aid digestion, and provide cooling effects during hot weather.

How To eat Siral:

1) Enjoy it fresh: When ripe, the fruit can be eaten as is. The flesh is juicy and sweet.

2) With warm milk and sugar: A traditional way to enjoy Siral is by adding warm milk and sugar to the chopped fruit.

3) With hung curd and spices: Some people enjoy ripe Siral with hung curd (thickened yogurt), chili flakes, and a drizzle of maple syrup or other sweeteners.
