The National Register of Citizens (NRC) Assam was created to identify Indian citizens residing in the state and detect illegal immigrants. To have your name included in the NRC list, you must submit specific legal and historical documents that prove your family’s presence in Assam before the cut-off date of 24 March 1971.
Below is the complete list of acceptable documents for NRC Assam:
-
1951 NRC Copy – If your family’s name appeared in the original NRC of 1951.
-
Electoral Roll up to 24 March 1971 – Voter lists that include your or your ancestors’ names.
-
Land Records or Tenancy Records – Legal ownership or tenancy proof from before 24 March 1971.
-
Permanent Residential Certificate issued by competent authorities.
-
Birth Certificate issued before the cut-off date.
-
Educational Certificates – School or university certificates issued before 1971.
-
Passport or LIC Policy documents issued before the cut-off date.
-
Any Government-issued Certificate proving your or your ancestors’ presence in Assam before the cut-off date.
If you are a descendant of someone listed in the NRC or voters’ list before 1971, you must provide linkage documents such as birth certificates, school certificates, or legal guardianship papers to establish your relationship.
Submitting the correct documents is crucial, as incomplete or incorrect proof may result in your exclusion from the final NRC list.
