The Bodo language is primarily written using the Devanagari script in modern times. Historically, however, the Bodo language has been associated with multiple scripts. Initially, the Latin script was used by Christian missionaries for Bodo literature and education.
In recent decades, the Devanagari script was officially adopted by the Government of India for writing Bodo, standardizing its usage in schools, publications, and official documents. This adoption has greatly contributed to the growth and preservation of Bodo literature and cultural identity.
Besides Devanagari and Latin scripts, there have been efforts to revive and document the traditional Brahmi script roots linked to the Bodo language, reflecting its ancient heritage. The choice of script plays a vital role in language development, literacy, and cultural continuity for the Bodo-speaking community.
