Who Led The Sepoy Mutiny Revolt Of 1857 In Assam?

The Sepoy Mutiny revolt of 1857 in Assam was led by Maniram Dewan, one of the earliest Assamese freedom fighters. A prominent tea planter and political leader, Maniram Dewan played a key role in mobilizing local support against British colonial rule during India’s First War of Independence.

Maniram Dewan, along with his associate Piyali Barua, sought to overthrow British control and restore the Ahom monarchy in Assam. He inspired sepoys stationed in Assam to join the uprising. However, the revolt was suppressed by the British, and both Maniram Dewan and Piyali Barua were arrested and executed in 1858.
