Who Was The First Freedom Fighter Of Assam?

The first freedom fighter of Assam is widely regarded as Gomdhar Konwar, a brave prince of the Ahom royal family who rose against British colonial rule shortly after the British annexed Assam in the early 19th century.

Born in the post-Ahom era, Gomdhar Konwar led one of the earliest known resistance movements against the British in 1828, just after the Treaty of Yandabo (1826) which formally handed Assam to British control. Disturbed by the loss of sovereignty and traditional rule, Gomdhar attempted to restore Ahom authority and mobilized local forces against British administration.
