The founder of The Assam Tribune, one of Assam’s most respected English-language newspapers, was Radha Govinda Baruah. He established the newspaper in 1939 in Guwahati, with the goal of promoting journalism, public awareness, and social reform during a time of political awakening in India.
Radha Govinda Baruah was not only a media pioneer but also a noted freedom fighter, educationist, and social reformer. Often referred to as the "Lion of Assam," he envisioned The Assam Tribune as a platform for truth, responsible reporting, and public service.
