Is There Any Crocodile In The Brahmaputra River?

Yes, the Brahmaputra River and its surrounding wetlands are known to host freshwater crocodilians, particularly the Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) and in some remote pockets, the mugger crocodile (Crocodylus palustris), though sightings are rare.

Specifically, both mugger crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles can be found in the Brahmaputra. While mugger crocodiles are more common throughout the river, saltwater crocodiles are typically found in the estuarine regions where the river meets the Bay of Bengal. Additionally, gharials, a different type of crocodile, were historically found in the Brahmaputra, and there are recent efforts to reintroduce them to the river.
