Which Ahom King Invited The British?

The Ahom king who first invited the British into Assam was Gaurinath Singha, who ruled from 1780 to 1795 AD. His reign was marked by internal unrest, notably the Moamoria Rebellion, which severely weakened the Ahom kingdom and left the administration in crisis.

Facing widespread rebellion, palace intrigues, and growing lawlessness, Gaurinath Singha turned to the British East India Company for military assistance. In response, the British sent an expedition under Captain Thomas Welsh in 1792, marking the first official British military presence in Assam.
