The largest man-made lake in Assam is Joysagar Tank (also known as Joysagar Pukhuri), located in Sivasagar district. Excavated in 1707 AD by Ahom King Rudra Singha, it was created in memory of his mother, Sati Joymoti. The lake spans roughly 318 acres (≈1.28 km²), making it not only the largest in Assam but also one of the largest man-made freshwater tanks in India.
Surrounded by several Ahom-era temples—including Keshav Narayan Vishnu Dol, Shiva Dol, Devi Dol, Surya Mandir, and Ghanashyam Dol—Joysagar Tank remains a landmark of architectural and devotional significance across Assam
