The first Chief Justice of India from Assam is Justice Ranjan Gogoi. He made history by becoming the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the first person from Assam and the entire Northeast region to hold the highest judicial position in the country.
He was appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 2012, and on 3rd October 2018, he assumed office as the Chief Justice of India. During his tenure, Justice Gogoi presided over several landmark judgments, including the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case, and was known for judicial reforms and promoting transparency.
