The first and only female Chief Minister of Assam was Syeda Anwara Taimur. She served as the Chief Minister from December 6, 1980, to June 30, 1981.
A member of the Indian National Congress, she was also the first Muslim woman to become Chief Minister in any Indian state. Her leadership marked a significant milestone in Assam's political landscape, representing both women and minority communities at the highest level of state governance.
