Chirang district is one of the 27 districts of Assam state in north-eastern India. The district headquater is in Kajalgaon. The district The name Chirang came from an old spelling for the Tsirang district of Bhutan.It is a new district formed in the BTC area of the state. Chirang district has been carved out from the erstwhile Bongaigaon district. The districts share its border with Bhutan.

Bongaigaon Refinery: This is the third Refinery in Assam established on February 20, 1974 named BRPL. The foundation stone of this one million tonne capacity Refinery-cum-Petro Chemical Complex at Dhaligaon. Bongaigaon Refinery became the eighth refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Limited after merger of Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited with IOCL w.e.f. 25th March 2009. It is located at Dhaligaon in Chirang district of Assam, 200 Kms west of Guwahati.
The Company was registered with an authorized capital of Rs. 50 crore, which was increased to Rs. 200 crore by December 1983.
