Sri Sri Ugratara Temple, Guwahati - A Sacred Seat Of Shakti Worship

Sri Sri Ugratara Devalaya is believed to be a Shakti Peetha, a sacred site where parts of Goddess Sati are said to have fallen. According to local belief, the navel of Goddess Sati fell at this location, making it a powerful center of divine feminine energy. The goddess worshipped here is a form of Tara Devi—one of the ten Mahavidyas in Hindu tantric traditions.
The original temple is said to have been constructed in the 10th–11th century by the Ahom kings. The present structure was built in the 18th century and later renovated after damage from an earthquake. Despite its age, the temple still reflects traditional Assamese architecture with intricate carvings, sacred idols, and an atmosphere of mysticism.
