Applicants must have entered India on or before 31 December 2014.

They must have faced religious persecution or fear of persecution in their home country.

Exclusion of Certain Areas:

The CAA does not apply to tribal areas of Assam included under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

It is also not applicable in areas covered by the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.

Residency Requirement:

Reduced from 11 years to 5 years of continuous stay in India for eligible communities.

Note: In Assam, implementation of the CAA is politically and socially sensitive, as it relates to the NRC (National Register of Citizens) and the Assam Accord. Applicants must also meet all documentary requirements to prove their eligibility.
