What Is The History Of Athkheliya Namghar?

Sri Sri Athkheliya Namghar, located in Bosa Gaon, Golaghat, Assam, was originally built as a temple in 1681 AD by Ahom prince Gadapani, later known as King Chakradhwaj Singha. It was later converted into a Namghar, a place of worship and community gathering in the Vaishnavite tradition. The name "Athkheliya" is derived from the Assamese word "ath" (eight) and "khel" (playground), possibly referring to the eight khels (divisions) of the Ahom kingdom.

The Athkheliya Namghar, located in Golaghat district of Assam, holds a special place in the spiritual and cultural history of the region. It is one of the most prominent Vaishnavite prayer halls (Namghars) in Assam and is closely associated with the Ekasarana Naam Dharma movement initiated by Srimanta Sankardev and his disciples.
