The very first women’s magazine in Assamese was Ghar Jeuti, which began publication in September 1927 and continued until mid-1931. Edited by Kamalalaya Kakati and Kanaklata Chaliha, it is widely recognized as the first Assamese periodical focused specifically on women’s issues, education, and literary expression.
Ghar Jeuti provided a rare opportunity for Assamese women to express their perspectives in print journalism for the first time.
