How Many Tai Languages Are Spoken In Assam?

In the northeastern Indian state of Assam, a total of six Tai languages are traditionally spoken. These languages belong to the Tai-Kadai language family and are preserved by various Tai ethnic communities who migrated to Assam centuries ago.

A total of six Tai languages were spoken in Assam. Two are now extinct.
 
1) Tai Phake
2) Tai Aiton
3) Khamti
4) Khamyang (critically endangered)
5) Ahom (extinct)
6) Turung (extinct)
