When Was Assam First Recognised As An Administrative Division?

Assam was first recognised as a separate administrative division in 1874 during British rule in India. It was established as a Chief Commissioner's Province, carved out of the Bengal Presidency. This reorganization gave Assam its own administrative identity, with Shillong as its capital.

The move was made to improve governance in the northeastern region and laid the foundation for Assam’s modern administrative structure.
