The shortest-serving Chief Minister of Assam was Bhumidhar Barman, who held the office for a very brief period in 1996. He served as CM from 22 April 1996 to 14 May 1996, a total of just 22 days.
Barman assumed the role following the resignation of Hiteswar Saikia but was soon replaced after the state elections. Despite his short term, Bhumidhar Barman had a long political career and held several important portfolios in the Assam government.
