Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom dynasty, established the Ahom Kingdom in Charaideo in the year 1228 AD. Arriving from present-day Myanmar, Sukapha crossed the Patkai hills and made Charaideo his first capital.
This marked the beginning of over six centuries of Ahom rule in Assam, known for administrative excellence, cultural development, and resistance to Mughal invasions. Sukapha is celebrated as the architect of greater Assamese identity and unity.
