What Was The First Assamese-to-assamese Dictionary, Who Wrote It, And When?

The first Assamese-to-Assamese dictionary was "Hemkosh", compiled by Hemchandra Barua, a prominent Assamese writer, grammarian, and social reformer.

Although Hemchandra Barua completed the work during his lifetime, **Hemkosh was published posthumously in the year 1900 with the support of Capt. P.R. Gordon and Hemchandra Goswami. Based on Sanskrit spellings, Hemkosh became the first standardized literary dictionary in the Assamese language and is still widely used today in academic and literary fields.
