How Many Tea Gardens Are In Assam?

As of the latest official records, Assam is home to over 850 registered tea gardens, making it the largest tea-producing state in India. In addition to these estates, there are thousands of small tea growers who contribute significantly to Assam’s tea output. Together, they produce more than 50% of India’s total tea.

Tea gardens in Assam are mainly located in districts such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sonitpur. Some of the most renowned estates include Halmari, Monabarie (the largest tea estate in Asia), and Manohari Tea Estate.
